Veterans Day recognizes the service and sacrifice of millions of American men and women on the completion of their uniformed service to the country.

In honoring veterans, the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs (SCDVA) announced Thursday that Retired Army First Sergeant Alvin King would be the inaugural South Carolina Veteran of the Year for the 2022-2023 nomination cycle. The award serves as a recognition to honor the remarkable contributions of Veterans in our community, and an Internal Selection Committee selects the individual from among the four Veteran of the Quarter recipients.

King is a 20-year United States Army veteran and founder of the Range Fore Hope Foundation. The nonprofit focuses on facilitating outdoor activities as a positive outlet for active-duty service members, combat and disabled Veterans, and their dependents.
